Lateral Operation

I heard a great and deep roar of many helicopters coming at a very low altitude. I rushed outside, as did everyone else in the neighborhood. I was quite surprised to see so many helicopters, landing here and there all over that area. Each was filled with soldiers. The word given to me was "lateral." The operation was termed a "lateral" operation or attack. They were there to get people, and place that area under martial law, gathering up the people and confining them or otherwise imposing their will. These were US government soldiers.
